Tahlia Paige – Surface Pattern Designer and Artist

I am currently finishing my third year at Cardiff Metropolitan University studying Textiles, where I decided my focus was surface pattern design. I never thought this is what I would want to do, I was pretty focused on drawing for years, then photography, and finally stitching and construction which made me decide to go to Cardiff Met for Textiles.

I worked on stitch and print in University but it was designing seamless patterns that I really enjoyed, and learning how my stitch and print could influence these, as well as my love of drawing and photography.

I take inspiration from my surroundings, being brought up in a tiny village in Carmarthenshire interested me in the natural world, wildlife and old structures. My time in Cardiff left me exploring architecture too, including abandoned buildings and castles or ruins. My latest collection has been inspired by endangered or declining species in the UK woodlands, and means I have been looking much closer to home during the lockdown for inspiration for foliage and plant life.
