It’s 2025, and it’s usually the time of year when I talk about new year’s resolutions and creating new habits. This year will be more about change and growth hopefully throughout the year, so it feels like a good time to remind you all who I am and where it all started:
I’m Tahlia, owner, designer and maker at Tahlia Paige, where I create a range of gifts and accessories inspired by endangered species in our woodlands and beyond. I also currently donate to help hedgehogs and red squirrels every time you buy one of their products.
As a welsh small business, things started small, literally from my own back garden. I started tracking a hedgehog I had managed to catch on camera, and used to watch him return every night for a nibble and a wander through the garden. I loved it, it gave me something to look forward to every morning when I rushed to bring in the camera.
It made me think more and more about how little we see hedgehogs in our gardens anymore, and when I looked at how much the species has been declining for the last few decades, I knew this was something I wanted to help out with.
From there, the Hedgehog pattern came to life, shortly followed by the original hedgehog gift collection. Some pieces have remained in the shop from the few day, like the make-up bags, pouches and reusable skincare pads, and plenty of others have joined along the way.
Unfortunately, when I moved to a city I couldn’t watch my hedgehog anymore, but when I come back to stay with my parents, it’s not uncommon to bump into a hedgehog in the garden at night in the warmer months.
I can’t believe it’s been over five years since I first started encountering that hedgehog in my garden while finishing my degree from home. So much has changed in both my small business and personally.
Now, I try and balance my work and fun better, meaning I try and spend some good time with my dogs, partner and my books when I need to relax in the evenings. But if you catch me in the daytime, i’ll probably be on either the sewing machine or the laptop!
